The Germiston police, led by Warrant Officer Sehlangu, along with forensic investigators, descended on the scene after the break-in was reported. The initial investigation revealed a complex operation that originated within a neighboring Nedbank premises. Cleverly concealing their entry point, the suspects damaged the floor of the Nedbank building, creating a tunnel that led directly to the FNB branch.
Once inside FNB, the perpetrators exhibited a calculated approach. Their first priority was disabling the bank's sophisticated security measures. They systematically damaged the alarm system and stripped off the movement-activated cameras, effectively blinding the establishment.
The thieves then breached a rhino board wall separating the main area from the vault, where they targeted three safes. Employing powerful grinders, they successfully cut open two of the safes, making off with an undisclosed amount of cash. They attempted to breach a third safe but were unsuccessful, leaving only damage in their wake.
According to preliminary investigations, the suspects made their escape via the same tunnel they used to enter, exiting through the Nedbank premises. The entire operation points to a well-coordinated effort, and authorities are currently working to determine the number of individuals involved.
"This was a highly organized operation," stated Warrant Officer Sehlangu at the scene. "The level of planning and execution indicates a significant amount of premeditation. We are thoroughly investigating all leads and are confident that we will bring those responsible to justice."
Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the break-in. However, the incident has sparked concern amongst local residents and business owners.
